Job Overview
Execution consulting is a core capability of the Aquis Markets sales team, enabling us to deliver data-driven insights through quantitative analysis, product recommendations, and product innovation. We are looking for a junior data engineer to further develop the current data infrastructure that powers this function — helping our team deliver world-class analysis to clients at scale.
This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career engineer to grow quickly. You'll gain direct exposure to European equity market structure, work with real-world financial datasets, and develop practical skills in data engineering that are highly valued across the industry.
Responsibilities and Duties
Assist in building and maintaining systems that transform raw market data into actionable insights for Aquis and our trading members.
Support the development of data pipelines and analytical frameworks to accelerate trade analytics delivery.
Contribute to our understanding of Aquis market microstructure and the broader European equity landscape.
Help provide clean, reliable data to management to inform strategic decision-making.
Identify opportunities to automate manual or repetitive processes across the team.
Required Skills/Experience
Essential
A degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related quantitative subject — or up to one year of relevant work experience.
Solid foundation in SQL and Python (academic projects and personal work count).
Understanding of data structures, pipelines, and how data moves between systems.
Curiosity about financial markets and a willingness to learn market-specific concepts on the job.
Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem-solving.
Nice to haves
Any exposure to data pipeline tools (Airflow, dbt, Spark, or similar) — even from coursework or side projects.
Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
An interest in equity markets, trading, or financial data.
Experience working with large datasets, even outside a professional context.
Innovative problem solver with the ability to quickly identify and understand issues
Must possess strong communication, writing, analytical, quantitative and research skills
About Aquis Exchange
Aquis Exchange (“Aquis”) is Europe’s challenger exchange, creating better markets for a modern economy. Aquis has market-leading technology and innovative rules for trading, and offers primary listings and secondary trading of equities, along with global licensing of proprietary technology.
Aquis consists of four divisions:
Aquis Markets operates lit and dark order books, covering 16 European markets. For its lit books, Aquis uses a subscription pricing model which works by charging users according to the message traffic they generate, rather than a percentage of the value of each stock that they trade.
Aquis Technologies is the software and technology division of Aquis. It focuses on building better markets via the creation and licensing of cutting-edge, cost-effective exchange infrastructure technology and services, including matching engine and trade surveillance solutions.
Aquis Stock Exchange (“AQSE”) is a stock market providing primary and secondary markets for equity securities . It is authorised as a Recognised Investment Exchange, which allows it to operate a regulated listings venue. The AQSE Growth Market is divided into two segments ‘Access’ and ‘Apex'; the Access market focuses on earlier stage growth companies, while Apex is the intended market for larger, more established businesses.
Aquis Data generates revenue from the sale of data derived from Aquis Markets and Aquis Stock Exchange to non-Member market participants.
Aquis is authorised and regulated by the UK Financial Conduct Authority and France's Autorité de contrôle prudentiel et de résolution and L’Autorité des marchés financiers to operate Multilateral Trading Facility businesses in the UK & Switzerland markets and in EU27 markets, respectively.
Aquis is part of SIX: the provider and operator of stable and efficient infrastructure for the Swiss and Spanish financial centres. For more information, please go to www.aquis.eu.
